Often people have questions about what I do and if it can be useful to them. This is a great way to find out more.
Getting to know you 30 minute virtual / phone visit: FREE.
Individual Sessions:
TIPS: It may be possible to combine individual sessions with group sessions to lower overall costs. It is also possible to complete a one-time consultation assessment session or to schedule sessions at a pace that works for your schedule and budget.
60 minute visit: $150
90 minutes: $225
Initial evaluations can be 60 minutes but often run to 90 minutes. Travel is charged at $2.50/minute with the starting and ending point being the studio address (see location page). Virtual services are available. My regular report completion is included. If additional reporting or case management is required by the client or an agency supporting the client, these will be charged at $2.50/minute.
Group Sessions:
These are treatment sessions. Some groups may require you to complete screening assessments or an individual visit assessment prior to entry.
50 minute groups: $30/session
General Instruction or Practice Group Sessions:
These are sessions that do not require you to have any individual session with me. This also means that I will not be assessing your specific concerns. These sessions give people a chance to learn helpful information or explore what an intervention feels like. If you are being supported by another therapist, one of these programs may complement the work you do with them. It might help you to have a journal available to keep notes for yourself or to share with a different therapist in your next session with them.
Please note: Without an assessment I cannot anticipate if you will have difficulty with one of these programs. For example, if I am offering instruction about trauma and pain and this brings up a challenging memory for you, I will not be the right person to support you. Additionally, if you are practicing a physical movement being shown in the class, I cannot know if you are moving too much for your body or if you will fall. Please consider your tolerances and the best ways to keep yourself safe, including what supports you can have on-hand should you need them.
Fees will be determined based on the program. They are generally lower than the treatment Group Session rates.
Group sizes are larger and sessions may be offered with an online option.
The Calendar page will list the names, dates, times, locations, and fees for these groups.
No, you do not need a referral for private occupational therapy care. However, if you are seeking reimbursement from a healthcare plan, that plan might require a referral. Please check with the plan in advance of starting care to learn what is needed.
I can do home or community-based visits. Travel is charged at $2.50/minute with the starting and ending point being the studio address (see location page).
To save money, we can meet virtually instead of doing an in-home visit provided you have video and audio options. If you do not have the option to meet virtually, cannot come into the clinic, and cannot afford a home visit, let us know and we can consider alternative options. These might include sending me cell phone pictures or cell phone video that I can review in your session.
OT services are not usually covered by your regular medical services plan with a few exceptions, such as assessing a person's need for major medical equipment. It is best to contact them to find out what the current coverage policy is for the type of OT service you are seeking.
I am currently contracted with WorkSafeBC to provide mental health care services. I am also contracted with ICBC usually providing personal care assistance assessments. You must be referred to me through one of these agencies to receive this care under their umbrella.
I am not contracted with any secondary health coverage payors such as Green Shield or Pacific Blue Cross. It might be possible for you to seek reimbursement from your healthcare plan for my services. Please check with them before you begin care to ensure that they cover private occupational therapy care and to learn what they need in order to do this.
OT services, nationally, do not tend to be included in secondary health coverage plans unless specifically requested when the plan is purchased. Our national OT association is lobbying to change this.
No. Occupational therapy and physiotherapy have similarities, however they are different professional disciplines. You will want to check with your plan to see, specifically, if they cover private occupational therapy care.
Payments for each session are due at the start of the session.
I accept the following forms of payment:
Cash/Check
I can accept cash at the start of the session. If you are arriving for a group session, please arrive a little early to allow time for this.
Interac E-transfer
Interac transfers must be completed prior to the start of the session.
Late fees:
If you are late for a session, I will still charge the normal amount for the session time you booked. I cannot guarantee that we will be able to tack on the amount of time you missed to the end of your session.
If I am late for a session, I will add those minutes to the end of the session so that you do not miss out on your total time. If that isn't possible, then I will reduce the cost of the visit at the per-minute rate.
Cancellations:
I do not currently charge a fee if you cancel a visit. However, I do ask that you give me at least 24 hours notice so I can offer the appointment time to someone else.
If I cancel a session, I will let you know as soon as possible. You will not be charged for a session that I cancel.
No shows:
I do not currently charge a fee if you do not show for a visit, however I do ask that you let us know as soon as you can about your intention to continue care. If I do not hear from you and you do not show for a second session, I will cancel all further appointments so I can offer them to someone else.
If I do not show for a session, I will not charge you for that session and I will communicate as soon as I can about why I was unable to be present.
Changing a session from in-person to online:
There is no change in the session fee for appointments when sessions are changed from in-person to online regardless if I made that change or if you did.
Refunds:
I charge per the sessions that you attend as described above which means that there will be no need for a refund as the charge will be applied to the session as it occurs.
