We might ask you to complete some intake paperwork prior to your appointment, even if it is for a general instruction/practice group session. Some of this will be administrative. Some will ask about you*. Please complete them all the way through as it helps us prepare for our time together. It also helps us to focus on your most important concerns during the session which can be especially helpful when you don't have a lot of time or funds to spare.
*Our focus throughout your care will be in supporting you to remain a 'doing' person. As such, our questions might include ones about if/how well you are doing something. These questions may feel a bit different than the ones you normally answer about physical ailments. This does not mean that we do not consider physical ailments, we do. We simply do so in the context of how well you are able to engage in your occupations (activities that occupy your time). Occupational engagement is the goal of our profession.
-
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move is usually advisable however people, including us, have done plenty of physical activities in blue jeans and boots. So long as you have something on, whatever works for you usually works for us. You will be asked to remove your shoes before entering the studio, so make footwear selections that are easy enough for you to do so.
-
You are welcome to bring small items that help you feel better. Some people have brought an item they like to hold, fidget devices, pillows, blankets, water bottles, and snacks. It is up to you. If we have anything specific that we would like you to bring, we will let you know separately.
-
Please be on time. If you cannot, please let us know as soon as you are able. We do not reduce the session rate if you are late.
If you are finding that it is a bad driving day due to weather or an increase in your symptoms, you can let us know as soon as possible and we can switch the session to video or phone depending on what type of technology you have (video or phone).
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. You can contact us directly. No referral or doctor's note is needed for private services.
-
Yes. Most sessions are virtual, so I can work with anyone in British Columbia. In-person sessions are available by arrangement for people in the 100 Mile House / Cariboo area.
-
Occupational therapy may be covered under an extended health benefit plan. Check with your provider to confirm your OT coverage and whether it is limited to certain types of interventions (it is most often covered for assessments related to home safety and accessibility devices).
We do not direct-bill insurance companies at this time.
-
Payment is due at the start of each session. We currently accept Interac e-transfer and cash. We're exploring additional options for the future.
-
Please give at least 24 hours' notice. If weather or symptoms make it hard to get to a session, we can often switch to virtual — just let us know.
-
Yes — and we mean that practically, not just as a slogan. This practice is culturally responsive, identity-affirming, and inclusive. You are welcome here regardless of your neurotype, gender identity, sexual orientation, cultural background, spiritual or religious beliefs, disability, age, or life experience. Your identity is fundamental to your care. We also believe safety goes both ways. We ask that all clients extend the same respect to others who may be in our space — whether in a group session, a waiting area, or an online meeting room. Respect for each other's dignity and differences is something we practice here, not just talk about.
Resources & Library (Coming Soon)
We're building a collection of practical resources on topics like trauma and the nervous system, chronic pain, sleep, routine-building, and more. Check back soon — or ask us about resources during your session. I'll develop this content over time and can provide it to you for the site as it's ready. The initial library topics I plan to include are:
Trauma & the Nervous System (orientation for clients)
Chronic Pain (migrated from existing OT Library content)
Sleep Support (practical strategies)
Routine Rebuilding (the prepare–perform–recover framework)
Movement Practices (trauma-sensitive, choice-based)
